Filter master grid based on detail grid

I have a master grid where all rows contain a detail grid. Both master and detail grids have filtering enabled. When a filter is applied to a detail grid, it is applied to all detail grids. I'm looking for a way to filter a row in the master grid if its respective detail grid doesn't have any rows after a filter has been set.

I've tried using isExternalFilterPresent and doesExternalFilterPass grid options to accomplish this. The issue is the detail grids don't exist unless the master row is, or has been, expanded.

I've played around with expanding and collapsing the master rows but given up to thousands of rows it interferes with the user experience.

I've tried to backdoor the library and create the detail grids without expanding the rows but that's proven difficult given that all the classes are tightly coupled and creating a detail grid relies on it existing, or soon to exist, in the DOM.

I'm probably able to accomplish this by wrapping Ag-Grid, storing the data off elsewhere, filtering the rows external to Ag-Grid, and passing the filtered rows into Ag-Grid. However, if there's support to accomplish more of this within the Ag-Grid library, that would be preferred.
