How setup launch.json configurations for JavaScript Debugger (Nightly)

I apologize if this question is very basic but I haven't been able to find a solution online. I am trying to set up my React application with the JavaScript Debugger (Nightly) extension in VSCode. However, I think I am not setting the "url" and "webRoot" properties correctly when trying to set up a launch request. The error message I get is "Unable to attach to browser". Here is the last thing I tried:

{
// Use IntelliSense to learn about possible attributes.
// Hover to view descriptions of existing attributes.
// For more information, visit: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=830387

    "version": "0.2.0",
    "configurations": [
        {
            "name": "Debug Chrome",
            "request": "launch",
            "type": "pwa-chrome",
            "url": "http://localhost/HomePage",
            "webRoot": "${workspaceFolder}"
        }
    ]
}

I understand I might be missing something fundamental so I once again apologize. Something to consider is that I am running VSCode on VMWorkstation while running my React app on Windows 10 through Chrome. I am also aware I am using an outdated version of VSCode and that is because of CentOS 7 since the newest version of VSCode doesn't work on it. I know there is Chrome Debugger extension but I keep seeing that is is depreciated and that this JavaScript extension should be equivalent. I am wondering if one of the reasons I am having trouble is because I am using an older VSCode version, so maybe using the Chrome Debugger extension might work for me (assuming I have my launch.json correct)? Or could it be because I am using VSCode on a virtual machine, it is not able to find the browser url I am providing? I have tried downloading Chrome on the virtual machine too but no luck.

I'd appreciate any noob tips to help me get started in the right direction. Using a debugger is something I have heard is very important and I want to get my head around this. Let me know if more information is needed to clarify the problem. Thank you in advance!
