I need a little methodical/architectural help. My scenario: I have got a webapp, written in html and javascript running on an Apache Tomcat on localhost. Now I want to log interactions the user make in my webapp (e.g. submits with form entries) serverside, in my case in the Apache Tomcat. Don't know if I'm blind, but I found no tutorials how to deal with that use case on the internet, although I would guess that this is a standard requirement for webapps. You need to know: I am very new to web development. I know javascript and html but the last time I developed with Java is a few years ago and all I know almost nothing about the Tomcat except running it to use my webapp (especially I know nothing about Tomcat logging). I just found that overview of logging possibilities in Apache: https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-8.0-doc/logging.html But I don't know if it's useful in my case and how to integrate that in my javascript code. Because I am doing rapid prototyping I am looking for the easiest and fastest way to reach my goal. There are two questions in my mind:

1. Is it a good choice to use the Tomcat as a runtime environment for my webapp or would it be smarter and faster (as someone who has no deep knowledge about Apache Tomcat and development in Java) to switch to an alternative like node.js for example to prevent a technology break (Javascript vs Java) and to prevent time invest? If it is necessary for the answer: I want to deploy my webapp on AWS in the next step. Don't know if there are few more hurdles with Tomcat or also with node.js.
2. If logging with a Tomcat javascript webapp is still a good choice and normally fast implemented, have you got any suggestions or example code snippets or links to tutorials or whatever to show how to realize that?
