Is it possible to make a Chrome extension that retrieves HTML elements from a external URL

I am essentially trying to find a way if its possible to retrieve certain snippets of HTML from an external URL. The goal is to build an extension that will be able to take a URL link to a live streamer on Facebook/YouTube and pass through different elements like their stream title & view count, which will then be inserted into the page they are viewing.

The website they are currently on when the chrome extension is active and the website they are requesting are two different websites, I believe I am having issues with cross-site requests or something along these lines, I've looked for solutions but cannot figure out what direction is best or if this is even possible to-do in a chrome extension.

I have read about puppeteer however to my understanding it isnt possible to use this inside a chrome extension.

Any help appreciated!
