I am working with MUI to try and change the behaviour of this multi-select autocomplete component. Currently the text box pushes the other page elements down when the component is focused and all of the chips are showing.

I want to see if there is a way to have the field behave like in the second picture where it displays 1-2 chips + however many are left that do not fit in the box, even when the component is focused. That way it will not push the other page elements down. Is there a way to cheat this? It seems like the default is for the box to extend when focused to show all of the selected elements.
