Elasticsearch: how to change data path while keeping all data?

I read the Elasticsearch documentation and didn't find a guide on this. The documentation is a large volume, so perhaps I simply missed the right chapter and couldn't find it using search on the site or third-party search engines. I only found a few discussions that don't exactly reflect my case.

The current data storage dedicated to Elasticsearch indexes and other data is almost full. I have prepared another storage and would like to move all indexes and other data there.

What I found on the Elasticsearch discussion forum is a sequence of steps like:

  1. BACKUP: Make sure you have at least one Elasticsearch snapshot

  2. close your Elasticsearch processes

  3. attach new LUN

  4. copy old Elasticsearch data directory to new location

  5. remove old LUN

  6. mount the new LUN in the same location as the old one, so Elasticsearch sees the same data, just with more space

  7. start your Elasticsearch processes

https://discuss.elastic.co/t/moving-elasticsearch-data-to-new-storage/306658

First, I don't understand what LUN is. And the procedure requires that the data location be the same before and after changing the storage. In my case I can't do it this way. Is there a way to make Elasticsearch reuse data persisted as per 1-4 but using another location/mount?

I understand that I must ensure that I have the latest snapshots taken and stored reliably according to

https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.12/snapshot-restore.html

But I'm not sure how to change the data path and move the old data there or maybe restore it from the last snapshot reliably.
