I'm trying to make files from a share available through apache directory index listing. (Internal only), not accessible from external.

I installed apache 2.4, mounted a shared folder under /mnt/sharedfolder

then put a symbolic link under /var/www/html/mysharedfolder to that mounted folder.

if I go to http://myserverip/mysharefolder , the dirlisting works fine and I can browse the folders and see which files they have.

However when I click on a pdf , docx, jpg , ... it goes straight to Connection reset from Chrome.

In the access log I can see the requests and a 200 response.

The strange thing however is, if I smash the refresh button fast, sometimes a file will succeed in showing/downloading and then the access.log shows for that request 304.

I'm not really sure what is going on.
