have a special situation where a JSON response is being returned like this:

      "stddev": 0.3888349838943
   }
}

These entries are going to be charted with D3. The problem is, I am seemingly going to have to take that first key, i.e. facing:researcher&section:analysis" and do a .split(), or splice() or both type of operation in the client side JS to extract these out into groups.

Have any of you ever did this before to an API result? It seems unusual because it is moving the normalization of the data to the client who is transmuting it, instead of receiving just JSON with the data broken out?

How would you do the split/slice type code by using a map()?
