How can I detect "rogue" software in my web app?

My website is pretty small, but it was hangin up with a strange message ...

waiting for ping.chartbeat.net

I have never heard of this domain, so I assume that one of the NPM modules I installed is doing this. How can I debug this to see what is going on to prevent this in the future. I use what I believe to be common and trusted modules such as React, Express, etc.

I am using primarily JavaScript on the Front End and JavaScript / Node and Back End. Is there some code I could write to detect network requests from external domains?

Does this question relate to cors?
