How can I add style rules to a CSS class with JavaScript?

For example, I have a class .text-center which has no style rules.

The class is used on a div like this:

<div id="div" class="text-center">
   ... some HTML elements
</div>

I want to add this rule to the class:

display:none

Is there any way to do that with JavaScript?
