Is the file protocol faster than URL.createObjectURl()?

I want to display some image files and play some sounds files on the users' PCs. I have two solutions for that:

  • If the users open a .html file on their PCs, I can write something like <img src="file://.." />.
  • If I put these .html files on the server then I can only open these files with an input tag such as <input type="file"> and write something in js such as $("#img").attr("src", URL.createObjectURL(files[0]));.

Is the file protocol faster than URL.createObjectURL if the timing is important for me and why? Will the difference be large?
