Vue printing observer instead of default value

I am trying to console a prop in which I defined a default value. The funny part is I don't see any default value in the observer being printed:

{__ob__: Observer}
required: true
type: ƒ Object()

The definition of the prop:

propinQ: {
  type: Object,
  required: true,
  default: {},
},

If I use the prop as a validation (if it is already defined) the test passes even though it shouldn't, because the prop is not returning its default value, but itself. Something like this:

if(this.propinQ) // do smth
