How to get innerhtml data to save in database in flask

I'm trying to make a stopwatch using javascript, and then take that data and store it in a database using flask. Right not I have made a working stopwatch that changes the innerhtml to show the timer, is there any way of grabbing this data through flask to insert into a db. I've tried to set up a form to get at it, but I can't work out how to set it up properly, would it be better to make the stopwatch in python and have it update the page from there, or is there a better option to pull the data from the web page itself? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm still new to this, I'm just looking for someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks!
