can't get value of element received by console.getElementById

i'm running this code:

 <p id="box-for-random">56</p>

javascript-

const runNumbersInbox = () => {
    let usersInputNumber = document.getElementById('box-for-random');
    let usersNumber = usersInputNumber.value;
    console.log(usersInputNumber);
    console.log(usersNumber);
}

for some reason the first variable works, and i'm getting the element, but the second variable, where i want to get the value, dosn't work, and returns 'undefined'. thanks for your help.
