TailwindCSS 2 does not work since it needs PostCSS at version 8

I am creating a brand new project with TailwindCSS; after using npx create-react-app, added:

npm install -D tailwindcss@latest postcss@latest autoprefixer@latest

and the fix reported (since I was having the problem) at https://tailwindcss.com/docs/installation#post-css-7-compatibility-build, but I still see:

> tailwindcss --jit -i src/index.css -o src/stewie.css

<snip> ./index.js:91395
        throw new Error('PostCSS plugin ' + plugin.postcssPlugin + ' requires PostCSS 8.\n' + 'Migration guide for end-users:\n' + 'https://github.com/postcss/postcss/wiki/PostCSS-8-for-end-users');

when I try to build the styles.

Any working fix for this ?

P.s: I have deleted the lock file, the node_modules etc several times. I remember not too much time ago I followed the instructions on the tailwincss page and all worked, maybe now some more things have changed ?
