How to run a full-stack JS project with docker?

this is my first time opening a 'commercial' project. There's already quite a lot of stuff in there, and it also includes docker which seems to cause problem. I have it installed as well as WSL.

Anyways, so far I cloned the repo and downloaded it. I ran 'npm i'

To run the app I need to write these two commands:

make dev-build & make dev-start

However, after I do so I get the following errors:

process_begin: CreateProcess(NULL, id -u, ...) failed.
Makefile:7: pipe: No error
process_begin: CreateProcess(NULL, id -g, ...) failed.
Makefile:8: pipe: No error
UID= \
  GID= \
docker-compose -f docker/docker-compose.dev.yaml --env-file .env build
'UID' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
make: *** [Makefile:11: dev-build] Error 1

I'm on Windows 11 and never really worked with projects built withDocker. Do I need to make an image for docker, or something like that? I'm not really sure how to figure this out.

My team mates are telling me to install linux ( although I do have WSL ). I am currently downloading an ISO file with Linux in it. And wanted to ask how to solve this in the meantime.
