What does id=x mean in this xss payload "<xss id=x tabindex=1 onactivate=alert(1)></xss>"?

I'm solving xss labs from portswigger with this lab name "Reflected XSS into HTML context with all tags blocked except custom ones", the answer consist of this payload and i don't get the whole meaning of this payload and what it is actually performing on the webpage when it is executed.
