¿Es posible agregar un índice a las tablas secundarias en PostgreSQL?

Supongamos que tengo una tabla principal y otra tabla que hereda de ella en PostgreSQL 9.5. Y luego, si agrego un índice a la tabla principal, ¿cómo hago para que se propague a la tabla heredada?

Ejemplo:

 CREATE TABLE parent ( id serial, data text ); CREATE TABLE child ( stuff text ) INHERITS (parent); CREATE INDEX ix_parent_data ON parent(data);
