Things were fine till yesterday. Today when I opened system I'm suddenly getting the error:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: function = <anonymous>, count = 3, index = 3
Along with "Internal compiler error", on running my project.
I tried updating my gradle version and gradle plugin version, and also the dependencies I have used, but it didn't work.
How do I solve this?

In my case downgrading ConstraintLayout version from 1.0.0-alpha07 to 1.0.0-alpha06 helped.

For me this happened right after I updated androidx.navigation:navigation-compose from 1.0 to 2.4
For me the problem was the accompanist-coil I updated it to 0.10.0 today and because of this error, I downgraded the version to 0.6.2
Worked for me if I downgrade all implementations for compose to beta6 and compose navigation to 1.0.0-alpha08. Or you should update kotlinCompilerExtensionVersion to 1.0.0-beta7 in composeOptions(in build.gradle, app Module) like this:

I ran into this myself. The two problem dependencies were:
androidx.compose.ui:ui:1.0.0-beta07androidx.activity:activity-compose:1.3.0-alpha08I rolled each back one release and I'm building again:
androidx.compose.ui:ui:1.0.0-beta06androidx.activity:activity-compose:1.3.0-alpha07Error appears when i update androidx.constraintlayout:constraintlayout-compose to 1.0.0-alpha07 (from 1.0.0-alpha06) and disappears when i updated all my dependencies to recent versions: all androidx.compose.* to 1.0.0-beta07, androidx.activity:activity-compose to 1.3.0-alpha08 and androidx.constraintlayout:constraintlayout-compose to 1.0.0-alpha07
I was able to fix this by upgrading all compose dependencies to beta07 along with the kotlinCompilerExtensionVersion to 1.0.0-beta07.
I'm using accompanist library as well which required an upgrade to version "0.10.0" which is built to work with compose beta07.
Compose Beta 07 introduced breaking changes so to fix this issue I had to update Compose to 1.0.0-beta07 and every other -compose library to the latest possible version:
activity-compose:1.3.0-alpha08
navigation-compose:2.4.0-alpha01
hilt-navigation-compose:1.0.0-alpha02
etc...
What worked for me was changing the kotlinCompilerExtensionVersion to version "1.0.0-beta07" in the app build.gradle file.
compose_version "1.0.0-beta07" will need the kotlinCompilerVersion upto "1.4.32". My compose_version is "1.0.0-beta01", so I choose to downgrade the constraintlayout-compose from "1.0.0-alpha07" to "1.0.0-alpha06"
This issue occurred when I updated Coil version for image loading to 0.11.0.
For me the solution was to upgrade all compose dependencies to the latest version(in my case 1.0.0-beta08) and for that also the kotlinCompilerExtensionVersion had to be updated to the latest version as well (in my case '1.5.10')
