How to debug and then fix missed key events in javascript?

Let's play jeopardy. You come up with the question. I have my answer, so I don't care if you want to close this.

But there is a non-obvious issue which others could benefit knowing.

If you listen to keyup events on an input box or, in my case, a contenteditable div, you will find the text content being out of sync with the keyup event keys. Multiple key strokes may have already been integrated into the text (or input value) while you have late keyup events still coming in.

This can lead to great confusion. You might even be thinking that it's your event handler's fault, that you might be missing key events. But no, you are getting all key events, but you may be getting them late, after the text object you are listening to has already been updated.

Now make a question or vote to delete. I don't care. If you don't want to know. I know now.
