Is Heroku rendering React components very slowly?

Basically I've deployed my React app using Heroku. The problem is, it is not performing nearly as well as it was on localhost. For example, I have an "animation player" component that displays an image and updates it using a setInterval. At local dev level, it runs a smooth 40 fps, but when I tried my app after deploying it, it's running at maybe 2 fps. I don't understand how this can be since I thought React components are rendered by the browser engine and have nothing to do with the Heroku servers? Would upgrading my account or switching to some other web service improve my app's performance? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
