Any way to auto retry document.location.reload()?

We have a live dashboard (basic website that shows various data). We often push updates to the html and javascript and want the page to reload regularly to pull in the updates. Note that I am not talking about updating the data shown on the dashboard. We do that with ajax. I mean refreshing the html, css, js. We use document.location.reload(true) on an interval to reload the page. I realize that the 'true' is probably ignored.

The problem is the reload sometimes fails (server times out, internet hiccup, etc...) and then we are left with a blank browser an have to manually reload. Not ideal for something that should just be a live dashboard.

Is there a way to auto retry a reload? or maybe a better way to refresh the page?
