How to rewrite a fetch request with the possibility of getting an error?

I have a fetch request:

 useEffect(() => {
    const requestOptions = {
      method: "GET",
      headers: {
        Accept: "*/*",
      },
    };

    const fetchExerciseGroups = async () => {
      const responce = await fetch(
        "http://localhost:8080/api/exercises/group/all",
        requestOptions
      );
      const data = await responce.json();
      takeExerciseGroups(data);
    };
    fetchExerciseGroups();
  }, []);

In case of an error, I get its code from the server side to the console, but I need to work with the value of this error in my code. How can I rewrite the above function to "pick up" this error in useState for example?
