How to trigger an activated or selected event manually on a JavaScript Fancytree node

With the Fancytree API, we can activate a node like this:

const TREE = $.ui.fancytree.getTree($container)
const NODE = TREE.getNodeByKey('12345');

NODE.setActive(true);

The node is activated and we scroll to it.

How would we programmatically trigger the actual "click" or "activate" event for the node in question?
