Diagnosing simulated click failure

I have some javascript which uses Mouse Events to simulate pressing a form submit-button. It worked well for years, but now it does not. I realise that this method is obsolescent, but none of the newer methods seems to work either. Manual clicking does still work.

I am at the limit of my capabilities, and cannot tell what happens to the simulated click once it goes in: If it is being blocked, or where, or how.

Is there a way to trace a click from INPUT, or otherwise track its progress? At the moment, I cannot diagnose my problem.

All suggestions gratefully received.
