Searching DOM for text and adding background color to element

I am trying to build a Extension plugin for Edge & Chrome.

One of the features is that the plugin should check the active tab and see if any of the text in the tab exists in my array of objects.

Example: My object looks something like [{term: "name"},{term:"something"}, ....] Let's say that the page contains the text name then the plugin should add a background color to the specific text. So if the text says "My name is John" then only the substring name should have a background color.

I am very confused and tried multiple things so if anyone been doing the same thing or can send me into the right direction. It would be nice
